New Droid - A Moto.

It is making me "accept" allowing Google, the Carrier and Motorola to download apps, update everything and do all sorts of other things - without my specific consent AND is reserving the right to do so using MY cellular data if WIFI is not available.

Can I stop this?

No choice but to "accept" these terms to add an account so I can download apps I actually want.

Or I guess, I have to return this phone because I can't be having all these companies willy nilly downloading apps and updating things I don't want to my phone - whenever they feel like it - and using my data on top of it.

Plus they apparently keep track of my usage to report it all over the place so they know what to send me and something else about push notifications for purchases of various things without getting my specific permission.

WWWWWHAT?

Is this normal?

I don't recall my old Moto requiring all this stuff. I feel like I have no control over my own phone.

You can set it to only download over WiFi.

You can also disable auto updates.

Both options are in the settings menu in the Google Play Store app

The above, plus always DECLINE those dialogues.
Swipe down from the top title bar and turn on Data Saver.
Go into Permissions and disable the ability of EACH of the Carrier, The Manufacturer, and Google to have System Change.

The google one is tricky, some Gapps will not work at all it you dont let Google have Carte Blanche to your Microphone, Camera, Contacts, and 17 other permissions.

But high-level understanding: there is no REQUIREMENT to use Google or the Carrier pre-installed bloatware. Just google for "life without google and the play store on android". Just realize you are swimming against the tide, and when you are done it may not be a "smartphone" once you get done welding all the manhole covers shut.

Don't be so paranoid. "They" are not tracking everything you do. Unless you're a billionaire, work in government top secret roles, or have some major financial secrets to keep, your data is mostly noise and pretty useless to most corporations..

Also, with security updates being more important, it's important to have updates delivered regularly to make sure you're secure.

Otherwise you'll end up with hackers who will steal your data and use it for fraud or other illegal purposes. You are fearing the wrong thing, instead of the most risk.

If you really value your privacy, just use a dumb phone, or buy an iPhone and shut down all permissions.
