I have a Samsung Note 4.
On the home screen, there is on the bottom, in the middle, a push-button which works as the "HOME" button.
Then on the same level, there are two icons, one to the left and one to the right of the Home button.
In my case, the left one is shaped like three vertical lines next to each other (Recent APPS Key).
The one on the right is shaped like an arrowhead pointing left (Back Key).

These two icons are normally not shown but always light up when you do something.
I can not even find certain actions to make them lite up, but they do lite up once and a while.

Is it possible to have two icons always light up?
If yes, what are the steps to get this done?

there are apps available in play store that drive the navigation buttons, i suppose it depends what version of android you are using as a note 4 is quite an old phone, in other words some apps might not work for you

Look up "navigation buttons" on your version of Android. From what you describe they sound like they are "soft" buttons. Should be be in settings.

What version of Android is it?

Sounds like we were typing at the same time. LOL
Yea, I am familiar with that gen Samsung. Almost positive there's a setting built in, check that link, that does exactly what you want.
