I'm in the market for a new phone. I'd like a camera and web browser, however, I'd like to avoid having to pay for a data plan, which leaves iphone and BB out). I'm thinking that a non-smartphone would be much cheaper to operate, but after considering the per-mb charges for texting and web browsing, the costs ($1.99/mb) could easily exceed that of a data plan if I'm not careful to limit myself.
I'm on Verizon and would like to stay with them, since all other carriers seem to have sketchy reception in LA. The downside of this is that Verizon's selection of phones sucks. I like the LG Dare since it has a full html browser and great camera.
Has anyone else gone with a phone like the Dare or Voyager, and do you save much on data usage compared to a Blackberry or iPhone?
