I just bought the HTC Touch PRO, with a somewhat short battery life.

I thought of buying an additional wall charger for the desk at office.
Then I see my wall charger from my old Motorola HT700 Bluetooth headset fits the charging port on the phone.

Both chargers output 5V.
The HTC OEM charger outputs 1 amp.
The Motorola charger outputs 550 mA. It charged up the battery.

I am tentatively assuming there is no issue with the lower amperage output in charging the battery.
Just a somewhat slower charge, but no other issues.

Right?

I wish I knew. There is a difference between 550 mA and 1 amp, but I don't know whether that will affect your battery. Some chargers are intended to detect whether your battery is fully charged and stop providing power, so as not to overcharge the battery. That function might not work if you use a different charger.

For the life of me I don't understand why batteries and chargers aren't universal. It's not just cell phones, either. I have a few cordless tools and each one of them has its own unique battery and charger, even ones made by the same manufacturer.

The lower amperage may cause your battery to not completely charge or charge properly, or take much longer to charge. The charger that came with it is 1 amp for a reason. Then again it may work fine. I charge mine off of the USB port on my cable box

Thanks guys.

Off to buy the proper chargers, I guess. Better safe than sorry.
