Apple's iPhone 3G S makes its debut - Jun. 19, 2009

"Though lines were long, they were shorter than anticipated -- the Apple Store put out many more yards of metal barriers than necessary. An Apple Store employee said it would likely take about three hours to sell iPhones to the customers who were lined up before the store opened. He said the line was longer during the last iPhone release in July."

I don't know how much more you can humiliate yourself by buying up the latest untested iDork gadget and waiting hours for it.

Probably because people figure they will drop the price 30 days from now, screwing over the people who waited in line. Kinda like they did last time.

That wasn't a screw over on Apple's part, the people that bought it when it came out had to be aware the price would drop, but they just had to have it now, no ones fault but their own. Happens Whenever something new comes out, personally I think Apple should have shown a bit of backbone rather than caving and offering a credit to initial crybabies, er, buyers.

If there was a screw over, it was Apple's release of the 3G at the highly subsidized price (1/2 of the first edition), and the lack of fanfare about it. My wife got me one of the old ones for my birthday, and luckily I was able to return it for the new one, paying just a nominal restocking fee. But I can understand people who bought a new one just a couple weeks before I got mine, which is after it had been out for quite some time, being a little miffed that the new one was so cheap.

But even then, you have a good point. Almost everything drops in price over time.
