I didn't have a phone until the end of 2004. I also didn't have a phone from March '09 until October '09. My life isn't dependent upon a phone, I love my new MyTouch 3G but I'm not always in a trance with it.

You are trying to cut expenses. Your kids paid $10/month for your phone.
Let me ask you this: How much is your landline costing you /month?
Let me guess: $19.99
Get the cell phone back, say "thanks kids, love you", and ditch the landline.

I don't have a cell phone right now, since my old one's been broken since eariler last month. I would've had one by now, I'm just really picky. I think I know one I want though. It's funny though, once you don't have a cell phone, you realize how much you need one just for safety's sake. And then you think of how it was when there were no cell phones.

Safety is the reason I wound up finally getting one a few years back.

I was one of those, "I never need one of those things" people, until my car broke down in the middle lane of one of the highways that goes around Atlanta. Now, that can be a death sentence here. Luckily, a AAA truck just happened to be passing by and he hitched me up and got me out of the busy area - and that was a 1-in-10000 chance of being that lucky, too. Otherwise, I'd have had to get out of the car and try to run across the highway during rush hour here and walk 3 miles to get to a payphone. Not smart.

So, I got one. To this day, no kidding, I use maybe a total of 45 - 60 minutes TOPS per month on my phone (LG DARE). I don't use it when driving, or in a theater, etc etc by the way, either. I'm not an addict, but I do know people who are. I do however, use a couple of the apps on my phone a bit. I use the V-cast to watch newscasts from my home town, and a detailed weather app to watch radar when storms are predicted so I can time taking my dogs out to pee. lol. That's the extent of my use, but even if someone just buys a $30 prepaid, I strongly suggest for safety reasons, people have them. imo.

My brother doesn't have one. My parents only have a TracFone because I got it for them and they keep it in the trunk of their car "for emergencies". One of two of my 19 year old son's friends don't have them either.

My uncle doesn't have a cell. I think his landline only accepts calls. I don't think he can dial out.
