A landline has a dial tone, so that you know that it's working. why didn't they invent a cell phone to have the same feature?

That's the function of the signal strength meter..think of it as a dial tone that gets louder the better the connection is.

Samsung does make a cell phone call Jitterbug geared toward senior citizen. The phone generate a dial tone sound like a landline. The basic of the phone is that it doesn't really have an extensive menu system like most cell phone. I guess it's less confusing.

As for the dial tone. Just thing of it as being replaced by the signal bar on the phone.
