For many people, it is great. No contracts, no overages, no phantom charges on your bill (such as ringtones you did not order) and nights that start at 7PM.
I've had a prepaid for about 7 years now and would never get a contract. I don't make enough calls for the contract so I would be wasting money.
Now that many people are looking at their finances they are seeing that they would be better off. It isn't for every one tho. It just depends on your talking/texting/IM habits.
I can see why prepaid use is growing so fast. Use to prepaid services were only for light users and those who just couldn't pass a credit check. However some prepaid companies have very good rates now for heavy users, even beating the rates of the post paid plans. Let's take a look at two of the most popular Unlimited Plans from two companies.
Straight Talk (Verizon Network)
Unlimited Voice Minutes
Unlimited TXT/PIX
Unlimited Mobile Web
Unlimited 411 Calls
$45 A Month
Boost Mobile CDMA (Sprint Network)
Unlimited Voice Minutes
Unlimited TXT/PIX
Unlimited Mobile Web
$50 A Month
I still wouldnt go to a prepaid plan.. the cost is too much. We have 8 lines between 2 contracts.
