This one really surprised me. The jury is out on if it is good or bad for the consumer. But I made sure to get a contract signed before Monday (I have been paying month-to-month.
i see this as basically an anti-tethering rule. 2GB for $25/mo is a better deal than unlimited for $30/mo.
i think you have a higher % of techies in places like NYC and SF who tether their connections, so their PC uses the 3g connection. supposedly this slows down network speed in critical big markets. Where I live, though, it is a non-issue.
2 GB/month doesn't sound like much, but in the context of a mobile device that is a ton. I use like 60MB or so every month.

I knew this was coming and I wrote about it here sometime back. The writing was on the wall long ago. The I phone itself was KILLING AT&T's network in major markets and they were scared to death of what the Ipad 3G is going to do to them when it hits the streets. Expect the other carriers to follow ATT within days except maybe Verizon which is the only carrier with lots of room on their network.
Myself and some of my friends have looked into what we actually use. The range seems to be between 60MB-800MB per period, so we all come out ahead if we switch to the "limited" plans from the unlimited.
ATT states this is a price reduction to get more people onto smart phones, and it looks that way from my pov.
I use from 100 to 150 mb per, so I switched the day it was available to the $15 plan. Saves me $15 per month. My bill should be $65 now.
Hi Nyse,
I have a stupid question. I am thinking of taking the data plan for $15 a month plan for 200MB. I will have Wi-fi on the phone so I will be using home internet or any available internet while I can. Does the Wi-fi count towards the 200MB limit ?
How much internet do you browse to keep it at 150MB per month ?
Thanks.

Nope, wiki doesnt use the cell network. Thats how I keep it where I do. But I certainly wouldnt say that im a light user. I usually check emails, view webpages download movies, etc through the cell network using data pretty much throughout the day.
The 2GB is for people that are heavy users, like hardcore techies.
Hope Iv been a help!
