I graduated from MUSC in May and was able to get hired at MUSC (but on a unit where I was previously a patient care tech). My classmates got jobs at all the hospitals in the area - MUSC (lots), Roper St Francis, Trident, and even the new East Cooper (well, 1 did). I can't speak for the other hospitals but MUSC does a Meduflex position in both the adult and pediatric world that is a great foot in the door. They're mostly non-benefit positions but seems like a lot of the RNs that got hired have now landed permanent positions. It's the float pool team of RNs.
To clarify, when you say go contract, do you mean like placement through Nursefinders etc as PRN, or permanent placement through someone?

I was referring to local agencies that place nurses in facilities that need extra staffing. It would be a way to get your foot in the door of a local hospital. When I worked in a hospital, they ended up hiring several of the agency nurses who were sent there to work. It was kind of like a "working interview".
I have been putting any local staffing company that does nursing into a folder in my favorites just in case. Maybe I will need those after all.
