Possibly looking at purchasing home or condo in the Charleston area, and still getting familiar with the area. Would appreciate advice on "safe" areas for young family within 20 minute drive of downtown. Will be looking for 2-3 bdrm property under $150k. Schools for us not so much an issue now. Just trying to get a handle on where to focus our attention. Thanks for any advice!

lots of threads with similar questions on this forum. "2-3 bdrm property under $150K...20 minute drive to downtown"...not gonna happen. Purchasing a condo? do your research on construction lawsuits and HOA/Special Assessment fees. Search this forum for similar topics...all that glitters is not gold. Based on your parameters, West Ashley may be your best bet for affordability and access to downtown, but if schools ever become an issue...you won't like what you find in West Ashley unless you go private, which costs a fortune. DO your research...best advice.

lots of good people on this forum can give you more specific advice! Just be thorough in your decision...your parameters are a hard match for Charleston. It's not cheap to live/buy here within close proximity to downtown. Some of the out lying areas are lovely i.e. Summerville but the drive in is more than 20 minutes. There's alot on here if you can find the time...good luck in your search and all the best...

Yep definitely going to be further from DT with a 150K budget, unless you can find something in Ladson area is worth living in, or Goose Creek, Maybe West Ashley but that will be very small old and needing updating...

Use Realtor.com to do your search..

Default Summerville

Look into Summerville ... $150K is doable there with great schools and a 30-40 min drive to Charleston. Great family area -- sports, YMCA, churches, shopping and a beautiful historic downtown Main St.
