In 2011, we are considering buying at Del Webb Charleston in Cane Bay Plantation. Anyone have feedback, suggestions, etc. about this age-restricted subdivision. After visiting this one and others, Bluffton primarily, they seem like an excellent buy and place to live. Thanks for your input.
The good side of Del Webb is the concept. Nice ammenities, nice neighbors, but TOO FAR AWAY from activities near and around Charleston. My parents live there, and it takes an extra hour or so(depending on traffic) added to each trip for us to pick them up and drop them off. The Publix will not help..only making groceries closer. Please consider other choices. If attending great art shows, farmers markets, downtown and the beaches are of interest, Del Webb may not be the answer.Hope this helps.
I agree. My parents looked at this community and felt a little deceived with the pricing. The houses end up being more expensive than they initially seem to be.
Just curious, why live in an age restricted place? I kinda like diversity in our neighborhood. We have friends and neighbors that come to our home everyday that are anywhere's from there early 20's to late 50's. It a nice blend of people and I enjoy everysingle one of them. Maybe my life style will change as I get older???

I think it is the available of activities and people to share them with.
The lots in Del Webb are "nuked".....they are completely void of trees, bushes, or any type of landscaping. Looks like a huge empty field with houses dropped onto it. Many people we've talked to don't like the neighborhood for that reason and would rather live in a place with more "personality" (landscaping, trees) even if it's not age-restricted.
Thanks for your reply. Cane Bay on Rt.176 is 30 miles from the C'ston marketplace and 11 miles from downtown Summerville. Yet, it is away from the Interstate and 17. Quiet area.
Interesting comment. Like any new construction there is a base price, inc. what the builder wants to supply, then the customization such as granite, etc. My only objection is related to the lot premiums which vary depending on location. Yet Del Webb has an excellent reputation.
For us, being 55+, we like the commonality of experiences, knowledge and interests. Plus, we like the covenants that prohibit neighbors from painting their house purple, parking huge RVs or boats in their driveway. There are separate parking areas for that. Most of us have been through the "rug rat" stage and like visiting grandchildren. Also, there is a 25,000 sq.ft. community center with indoor and outdoor pool, fitness center, etc.
Thanks for the comment. I agree on the barren look, but it is typical of new construction areas. But as one woman living in Del Webb The Haven in Bluffon said: "It is not about the house, but about the community."
