I have read some really bad reviews online about R&B properties. We still looked at a few of their houses and got ALOT of pressure to sign a lease asap. We refused to be rushed. We found a house that is rented out by the owner. She has a few houses that she and her family rent out so we are able to deal directly with her. Any problem we have had has been dealt with very quickly. We had a good feeling about her when we met her. I am glad we don't have to deal with a management company although I am sure there are some good ones out there.
Just my experience, you get more for your money in Summerville. We are renting a 2bed/ 1.5bath with a garage, storage building, and fenced yard(very important with a toddler) for $925/mo. Our neighborhood is older but nice. Everyone in the houses around us have been here 30+ years.
The one thing I learned is to drive around a few block in all directions from the houses you are considering. Look closely at the surrounding area. The first house we looked at we noticed that the back door had been kicked in before and the frame had not been replaced (BIG RED FLAG!) we drove around the neighboorhood and about 2 streets over it got nasty. Bags of garbage floating in the ditch, houses falling apart...
Best of luck!
Also beware of online scams. We found a house on line that was PERFECT. It was hard to believe it was in our budget. We checked the same address on realtor.com and found out it was $400/month more that the scam ad had listed. Live and learn right?
Why thank you very much for such an informative response. I will focus on renting from someone who owns it. Do you know how the job market there is? More specifically for accountants and event planners/hotel/tourism?
sorry. I don't. This town is all about tourism. I know lots of food shows (Rachel Ray, Anthony Bourdain, etc.) have been here in the last few years so that helps a little too. I am sure others will have a better handle on the industries you are asking about.
We moved here because my fiance started with Boeing in Feb. I heard miler properties was good but don't know from personal experience.
A real estate agent who does rental properties might be a big help.
