Hi everyone.

We are relocating with Boeing and are searching for a rental that is family friendly, we have 2 children (ages 1 and 3), and 2 large dogs. We are looking for a home with a large back yard for under $1500. The prices in Goose Creek seem pretty darn reasonable, why is the debate always between Mt. Pleasant and Summerville? Is there something "bad" about Goose Creek? Are the schools not as strong? Any help would be appreciated.

Any good vs. bad areas of Goose Creek?

Thank you so much for all the help, these boards really are AWESOME!

My feeling is it's it's just kind of there. No downtown, not a real sense of a town. The Crowfield Plantation area is my favorite part of Goose Creek, which has a pretty decent amount of newer shopping and restaurant options close by, along the Rt 176 and 52 corridor. My preference is Mt Pleasant, followed by Summerville as a very close second. Home prices in Mt Pleasant are very high, because of the proximity to the beaches and Charleston downtown. You'll also notice if you go on GasBuddy.com, that gas prices are higher in Mt Pleasant. We settled in Summerville are are very happy where we are. Much more home for the money here.

aetcas: Thanks. I love Mt. Pleasant due to the fact we live in Palm Beach and it's pretty similar to home.......but I'm kind of done with high priced real estate and fancy shopping malls (however, I do love my Whole Foods!)

Summerville sounds very nice, I love the fact that southern towns actually stress community and a sense of place.....not something you find in Florida!

I moved here from South Florida. I think you'll find Mount Pleasant more comparable to what your use to in Palm Beach. Prices are much less than they were in the height of the RE market. IMO Down about 50-100K so now is the time to look in Mount Pleasant. But check both areas out to be sure of what fits for you.

I lived in Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, and Daytona, my wife is from tampa...

Mt. Pleasent gives me a big FL vibe.... I moved out of FL, I love summervile.

But that FL lifestyle is popular and some people prefer it.

That is extremely helpful, thank you. We were leaning toward summerville, but I think we are set on it now!! I'm done with Florida!

I've never gotten a Florida vibe from Mt P or anywhere around here. To each his own, I guess.
