This forum is great and I think I have already learned tons. Here is our situation.

We are moving to Charleston from Florida in 3 weeks. My husband got a job and will be working on James Island. We have two small children one will start kindergarten next year.

We are looking for a family friendly are with good schools within a 30 min commute to James Island. I would like to put my kids in public schools; I know they are hard to find in the area.

We are willing to live in a house or condo it must be at least 2 bedrooms 3 would be great.

We are currently looking for houses under the $200,000 range.

Any recommendations on areas. I really like the idea of living on James Island because the commute would be so easy. I was looking at the Meridian Place complex there. Are there less desirable areas on the island?

What is the real estate situation there? It looks as if it is slowing down a bit.

Thank you for any information,

Samantha

Best place for getting a decent home under 200k with good schools is going to be in Summerville.

That would be nice, but I don't want my husband to commute 1.5 hours to work. I was looking at Harbor View Elementary on James Island. The ratings on Great Schools says that it is pretty good. Any opinions?
