I'm asking for any input in helping my search for a 1br apartment that is around the $400-$550 range. I'm a single girl and keep getting told that the areas I'm looking at near the military areas aren't so safe and are crime ridden. I just want a temporary lease of 3-6 months incase I want to move elsewhere once I get on my feet. I've been looking around Charleston, N. Charleston, Summerville, Goose Creek, Hanahan and West Ashley. Any tips are greatly appreciated.

What part of the Charleston area will you be working?

It will be difficult finding an apt in a decent area with a budget of $400-550. You might want to check Craigslist and see if anyone is trying to rent a room in a private residence. West Ashley, James Island and Mt Pleasant are good areas for singles but Summerville is good if you will be working in North Charleston.

Yes your rent criteria is a little low and a 3 month lease will be tough. Try to find a roommate/room to rent situation. Good Luck!
