WOW! I knew a lot of WP's products were manufactured in Mexico but really, come on WP. It makes you wonder a couple of things--Why would the headquarters continue to be located in such a blighted community?(hmmm, financial incentives from state and nat'l government?); where do the executives of WP live?

I just found the answer to some of my questions: Benton Harbor: Pure Michigan, all Trotsky - Rockford, IL - Rockford Register Star

I'll definitely be thinking twice about my next appliance purchases.

I know that some GE appliances are manufactured in the US, but some models are outsourced. I think the same is true for Bosch. You're supposed to be able to tell where they were made by the model number, but I haven't been able to find that info. The only major appliance in my home I can actually say for certain I know where it came from is my stove from New Zealand. All these US products are pretty sneaky about where their stuff is coming from.

Here's a helpful "Made in America" site: Home Appliances (http://madehereinamerica.com/appliances.aspx - broken link)

I know the Whirlpool plant in my homestate of AR is scheduled to be fully shuttered this year.

Regarding other household goods, several years ago I began to try to buy American...or at least not Chinese. I won't get on my soapbox just suggest we all really start paying attention to where the goods we purchase are made.

The pendulum is starting to swing back to the good ol' US of A. I heard a story on NPR this week about Keen shoes and boots. While many of their products are made overseas, they recently opened a boot plant here in the US--not a big factory but at least 25-30 Americans have jobs.

Appliances are just one thing. You're hard pressed to find ANYTHING anymore that is USA made.
Whirlpool isn't the only corporate criminal involved in this stuff.
