Has anyone been to Brick House Kitchen on James Island? Looks like a neat laid back place to eat. How is the food?

I'd throw my vote in for either Page's Okra Grill or Jestine's. I'd consider both of them a bit more kid-friendly than Poogan's.

I like Jestine's (although we haven't been in a while). Not impressed in the least by Hominy Grill.

Page's Okra Grill in Mt Pleasant is a favorite. I'd give that a good southern rating!
I'm not wild about Jestine's... it's become a attraction rather than a restaurant in my opinion.

Just went...it is very yummy! The free hushpuppies they give you when you sit down are amazing. I would go back just for that.

You have to go to Jestine's which is close to where you are staying. It is the most local, southern cooking you will find. Old friend of ours said their shrimp and grits is the same as her old dirt poor, living way north of Broad St., Charleston grandmother made and the Coke a Cola cake brings tears to her eyes remembering her grandmother.

I love Sal Parco's restaurants....especially the Boulevard Diner and Mustard Seed....but old time southern cooking it is not.
