Looks like I'll get to see some friends from California (where moved from) soon. Anyone know of any gift shops in Summerville that carry items that could be given as gifts, that would embody Charleston? (Benne cookies, Gullah mixes, SC made preserves, etc. Focusing on food because we'll be joining them at their beach house.) Trying to save myself a drive into Charleston.
Thanks for any help!

Piggly Wiggly has a local flavor display that is quite nice. The one on Bacon's Bridge has it in the rear of the store. Look for *Mother Shucker's Cocktail Sauce*, it's made in Columbia and is very, very good....after you try it, the other cocktail sauces taste like nothing but ketchup!
Publix carries our locally grown tea from the Charleston Tea Plantation...the ONLY tea plantation in the U.S.
Great idea, a gift basket of local foodstuffs!

In the historical village of Summerville, there are shops that sell local items. I bought some natural mosq. repellent from one. You can buy pottery and other locally made items. I do think there were food items and soaps, as well.
Palmetto Moon is awesome if you are looking for SC themes rather than local products. We love that store.

Sarah's View on Richardson Avenue carries tea from the Charleston Tea Plantation - they may have other local items too. Also, check the Summerville Farmers' Market on Saturdays - there's a lady who sells relishes, jellies, etc. that are made here in the area....and sometimes Southern Sisters sell their cookies, including the benne kind, at the Summerville market. I think they even bake their cookies in Summerville....
