I'm considering a move from dreary DC to the Charleston area. If I were to do this and then get laid off , I'm wondering what the area is like for tech and govt contractors. Thank you.
If you're from DC you'll probably recognize Honeywell, Deloitte, and Booze too.
What kind of tech work do you do?
Mostly DoD here, but some IRS, DHS, and State Dept.
You'll also find contracting here is much more about your network, personal relationships, and past performance than in DC. Other than a contract vehicle the person is more important than the company they work for long term. All the players know each other down here. Retreading can be a pot harder if you don't preform, not that you have that issue.

Good luck
You are sweet. That is great information. I am a Project Mgr/Planner. I don't have a lot of contacts in that area, so I would have to work on that. I am currently with a Gov't Contractor company. It's okay, but I find DC and the surrounding areas to be very distasteful for me.
The role is with my company, so if it happens, I'd stay with my company and scoot down there. But one never knows, now does she?
This is all great feedback.
