Does anyone have any information on what is going on with the building of Sullivan's Island Elementary School? I keep reading that some of the residents are protesting building the new school...and the size of the school. We are planning to move to Sullivan's early in 2013 and have small children. This is a huge issue for us. Thanks for any help!!!

I'm bumping this post because I have the same question. Lots of politics in the news...does anyone have enough info. to put what's going on with the school in simple terms?

Thanks.

I thought it has to do with the rezoning in general...many are fearing their children would end up at a different school.

It's a done deal -- they have broken ground on the new building. It is scheduled to open in August 2014

Anyone know why cars line up at 2 for the 2.30 let out on Myrick? Is it because Sullivan's Island never had any buses and they never budgeted for buses when deciding to go to the temp school?

Has nothing to do with the buses -- has everything to do with parents not wanting kids to ride buses or schedules demanding that parents pick up their kids. There isn't an elementary school in the southeast that doesn't have a line up of parents waiting -- sometimes more than an hour before school ends.

What do the people that work do? Arrange for a stay over with someone else?

Just trying to understand...

There are buses --- the parents choose not to put their kids on the buses but the buses still run. If a parent works their child buses to their after school day care or other arrangements are made.

Ahhh. Do buses carry stigmas here?
