I do not like playing golf when the temperature is below 50* during the day. In 9 years in Charleston 2002 to 2011, It rarely ever got below 50* during the day and then only in Jan/Feb. In 9 years we saw snow maybe 2-3 times and it never stayed on the ground for more then a few hours.
Ha ha!!! If we get a 50 degree day between Dec-Mar in Chicago, the golf courses are packed (the ones that are open and some of those that aren't)!
Right it was Christmas Day night 2010 . I have a picture of the snow accumulating on the palms at my Father in law's house (you can barely see it) -- but as I said....as we crossed IOP -- nothing -- not even a flurry.
We moved here from the DC area 5 years ago. The first Christmas was unreal to us - to have the windows open on Christmas eve. I do recall the winter before last temperatures were quite a bit colder in January and February...but even then the weather sure beat where we came from. When you can do your Christmas shopping in short sleeves...what a deal!

The absolute coldest I have ever seen in this part of SC is 19 degrees. I was driving my jeep to work in Orangburg on said cold morning, I was having a trouble with the jeep leaking coolant, aka antifreeze, for the better part of the summer and fall and had been adding plain water back to the system, about Jedburg Rd and hwy 78 the radiator froze and split.....
Long story short, by the time I got back to my house rippd out the blown up radiator installed the new one and was ready for a retest it was 55 degrees out and I had worked up a sweat.....
Moral of this story, always replace your Coolant, aka antifreeze, with 50/50 blend....
Yeah, that storm we had was February of 2010. Most snow I've ever seen around here. Even on the barrier islands I had almost 3" of snow. Places inland had as much as 9".
We also had that ice storm in January of 2011 that closed schools in Charleston (and was mainly ice here), but places as close as Cane Bay got a couple of inches of snow.
It does get cold in the winter, but October and early November are some of the most beautiful times of the year in the Lowcountry.
Just love the winters here...just a slight chill in the air..yet no snow or ice to deal with...it's fantastic!
