We will be visiting Charleston for several days over Thanksgiving - our first time there. Been doing some internet research and AAA Tourbook reading, but thought I'd try this for input. Read a lot about several local restaurants for a memorable Thanksgiving dinner in the downtown historic district. Currently have a reservation in at Poogan's Porch, but noticed that AAA rating is only "two diamonds" vs. three or four for these others that seem to be mentioned in various postings on the internet:
Hall's Chophouse
Slightly North of Broad (SNOB)
High Cotton
Magnolia's
Palmetto Cafe
Don't mind getting in a sport coat and having a great atmosphere and an experience that is representative of Charleston's uniqueness. Also, they need to serve on Thanksgiving Day itself, not Saturday as some may do.
So, should I stay with Poogan's Porch, or are there better choices out there?
I haven't been here very long so I haven't eaten everywhere on your list. It seems that several of the posters here like Poogan's Porch pretty well but your other options are great too. Of all restaurants listed, I've heard the best things about SNOB. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them, though!
Instead of comparing restaurants for TG dinner you should actually compare menus...they will all be different. It would suck to choose a restaurant based on rating only to get there and not like thei TG selections.

I agree. Love poogans but the tg menu doesn't appeal to me.
We went to Anson's Restaurant several years ago on Thanksgiving and it was FABULOUS. I also love SNOB at any time. But first hand experience would go to Anson's.
