Hiya everyone!

I'm planning on moving with wife and child to the Charleston area come May. For now, I'm planning a brief trip to the area to get a PO Box address for job applications. I'm going to swing through Asheville to get my 28 year old brother, then head down. We'd love to have a great time and because he's an Ashevillian, of course you know he's into the cultural aspect of locales.

I've searched for the good bars and I think I can trust some online reviews, but having trouble trying to match things up for a decent price. Comfort Inn on the peninsula and walking to King and East Bay? Staying in Mt. Pleasant or North Charleston and taxiing?

Any recommendations for where to stay for a few nights and if it's better to be within walking distance vs. taxi?

Any recommendations on great bars?

Thanks in advance,

Meeting and Calhoun streets, there is a hotel there used to be a Holiday Inn, now I think it is a Marriot chain but that is a real nice walkable location and it isn't real expensive...

Vendue Range Roof top bar...

Also...

Best Western King Charles Inn downtown...very walkable.

The Comfort Inn by the hospital is not where you want to be.

So I'm getting the sense that it's better to stay downtown and not even bother with a cheaper hotel in the Islands with a taxi...

Well that would be the funnest and most convenient since you're looking for bars. I don't see that many taxi's downtown... but maybe someone else can speak to that.
