I graduated from The Citadel in 1970, and I'm considering relocating to Charleston from the Washington, D.C. area (Northern Virginia). I retired from Capitol Hill after serving for 28 years as a Congressional staffer. Since retiring, I have been working on a part-time, contract basis with organizations and businesses to research and provide advice on how to resolve issues that might affect them that are before Congress and federal agencies. During this period, I also have conducted political research for two successful Congressional campaigns. I have contacted some local Citadel alumni to inquire about such opportunites in the Charleston area, and I would welcome any suggestions that anyone reading this post may have to offer as well. Thank you.

I don't live in SC but a couple of "generic" ideas pop into mind. Chamber(s) of Commerce. Is there something similar to the DC local Council of Governments? Colleges/Universities usually have a need for a government relations function.
