So this may be a stupid question but I'm going to ask anyways since I'm curious. I've lived in Myrtle Beach for college and Greenville, SC for a few years after school. The big difference in these cities compared to Charleston is the cost of living. Like, in Myrtle Beach, I rented a 1BR condo 10 minutes from the beach for $500/month...and it was in a really nice community. Same went for Greenville. But then I get to Charleston and everything is just way more expensive, like paying $900+ a month for a 1BR with less sqft expensive. What's the reason? I thought maybe because it's coastal living, but then it wouldn't make sense that I lived in such an affordable place in MB. Just wondering as my mom and I were discussing this topic during the weekend.
When I mentioned to everyone in Greenville I was moving to Charleston, they said two things. One, how jealous they were I was going to be living here. And two, how expensive it is. I mean, all coastal cities are fairly expensive to live in. I spent some time in Emerald Isle, NC and that area wasn't cheap either. I guess Myrtle Beach is just the exception? But if it matters, there is no way you can compare MB to Charleston. Quite honestly, I couldn't wait to move out of that place.
Charleston two years in a row was named the top city in the world by Conde Naste Magazine..followed by Cape Town Africa. For that reason, the area can pretty much demand high rents, the finest restaurants, etc. A couple restaurants in Charleston were just named the top in the country. You don't get those accolades at Myrtle Beach.
Pretty good compared to where, and let us confine it to SC as did the OP?
I have no clue in SC.
I just thought it was cheaper then Tampa, Orlando, Ft. lauderdale other then Daytona Area, close tie to that.
