My husband and I are relocating from VA to Charleston in the coming months. We are researching the area and will be in Charleston in a couple of weeks to check out the different areas. We are trying to figure out what area within Charleston we should scope out for the move! We are mainly moving for the beach so being within 20 minutes of the water is important. We are also young (27 yrs old) and like having shopping, dining, art culture around us. Safety is a priority and vicinity to good schools would be great too as we are thinking of starting a family in the future. We'll likely rent first; then buy. Rent budget: max 1150/month, House Budget: about 250k.
So, we need suggestions about which area we should move! Downtown Charleston? Mount Pleasant? We've also thought about Daniel Island or James Island. Somewhere else I've not thought about? Thoughts Please!! Thanks in advance!
What part of VA. Moved from Richmond to mt pleasant 5 years ago. You will probably find yourself shelling out a little bit more $ to live in mt p. if your used to living in a nice suburb with good schools.
Daniel Island is WAY more expensive than Mt P. Last time I was looking at townhomes in Mt P, we could get one around the $250k range. Not bad, it was 4BR 3BA but it is a townhome.
Wow, It looks like James Island is the main suggestion! Are there advantages to James island vs Mt Pleasant? No one is suggesting the downtown area.... not the best area to live?
James Island again, I'm getting ready to move there myself. West Ashley is possible too as the Avondale area is nearby and has some cool places. James Island is laid-back and within 10-15 minutes of both downtown and Folly Beach which is nice.
