More big news today in the grocery front. Harris Teeter/Kroger is buying seven local Piggly Wigglys, including all three on James Island, Newton Farms on Kiawah, two in Mt. Pleasant, and a planned location on Isle of Palms.
Once the smoke clears, Kroger will own Charleston.
Something tell me Kroger and Harris Teeter are not done acquiring stores.
In two years, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee will see competition among Kroger and Publix as the two leading traditional grocers.
I'm excited buy these New Teeters. I didn't much think Piggly Wiggly had great sales or incentives. There are some local items that we will have to get somewhere else though.
