HI All -

New to this forum. My husband(50) and I (50), no kids at home are thinking about relocating to the South Carolina area. I was thinking about Beaufort/Charleston because we both want to be by the coast - we love everything form paddle boarding to kite boarding and fishing. We like a small town feel with some land (3 acres +/-) but need to be close enough to areas with jobs. We are both in construction - I'm contracts admin. and he is estimating.
Any input on areas to start investigating and visiting would be greatly appreciated. Not set on any one area at this point - just starting our search. Thanks for any and all input!

Around Charleston, if you want a few acres and still want to be close in to construction action, I'd say further out Mt Pleasant or John's/Wadmalaw Islands to start. Further out West Ashley could still keep you close to the water too.

What kind of budget you have will help determine just how close in to the action you can get and still have some space near the water.

Thanks for the reply! Our budget is probably going to be under $250,000 and we'd even consider a "fixer upper". We would rather have a smaller home with a nice piece of land as opposed to a large home. We'd like to be as close to the coast as possible, but would consider up to an hour away.

You might check out St. Helena Island or Lady's Island just outside of Beaufort. Plus, Beaufort will give you the small town feel you are searching for.

250k with 3 acres near water is going to be tough in this region. 250k with 1 acre is tough.

What areas should I start looking into to get that? How far from the coast would we be able to get some land? Thanks for the replies!

Finding that much land close to the coast for that price is easy...finding it with a house on it is another story.
