Last year's winter was so mild. This winter has had many chilly cold days and nights.

I am able to handle cold weather more so than hot. I can go through the winter and rarely use my heat except to knock the chill off in the mornings. I will dress warm to keep from having to run the heat.

This winter though I've been forced to run the heat a bit more. I just received my electric bill and it's not as bad as what I thought it might be but still higher than the norm.

So, how have your electric bills been running?

It's a little higher, but not as high as mid-summer when the AC is running!

assuming temps in the midlands are close to the Charleston area for comparisons; our elec bill jumped about $50 over same period last year. This is a cold winter so far, and as we work from home there isnt much time that it's not turned up or on (68 during the days, 65 @ night).
OP, i'm from WI, only been down here 5 yrs and have acclimated to the heat so quickly that i can no longer handle true cold anymore lol. Yeah i still know the diff between frigid SC temps of 15 above and frigid Wi temps of 15 below, but cant wait for the summer heat to work it's way back here.

Mine went up about $50 but still cheaper than the hottest part of the summer.

Ours is definitely higher! But, I'm super cold natured, and I didn't think this past summer was really hot, anyway. But this winter has been chilly. Brr...

Ours is almost 60$ more than the hottest part of summer.....not sure whats going on but we just lowered the thermostat.

We kept the house at 78 in the summer 68 in the winter, however with the increase in energy cost I've lowered the thermostat to 64/65.

We have gas heat, so I can't comment on electric heat increases. But, in the summer, we keep the AC set to 75 and our electric/gas bill is usually around $250-$275. In the winter (normal average), with the heat set to 70-72, our utility bill usually drops down to $150-$175. However, with the colder weather this past month, our gas cost has gone up making our utility bill this past round about $215. Not too bad, all things considered though.

Just got my bill. It's usually around $60-$70 and it's $107. Ugh. I live in a 1BR, 750 sqft and keep my place around 68 degrees so this seems a little ridiculous.

Winter is worse than summer for us, and this one has been ugly. I'm pretty sure it's because there is zero insulation under the floor. That's definitely a go-do for us in 2014 once we're done with all the big changes down there.
