As far as atmosphere, location, and food, California Dreaming has been the best restaurant I have experienced. Not saying thats a bad thing because I love California Dreaming. I'm just curious if there are other restaurants in the area that can compare. And i'm not talking about upscale restaurants because I don't consider California Dreaming an upscale restaurant.
Definitely not. Out of all the fabulous restaurants here, you think CD is thee best?
In my short time here, I've been to Poogans Porch, Magnolias, Blossom, Cypress, Grill 225, McCradys, Peninsula Grill, Southend Brewery, Fleet Landing, King Street Grille, Kaminskys, Waters Edge, and Halls Chophouse (being this past weekend and let me just say that place is AMAZING). CD comes close to none of those in my opinion. Plus, it's a chain restaurant. Why pick a chain when you have unique places to dine downtown?

Magnolias, McCradys and Halls Chophouse I consider upscale, and if you read my post I wasn't including upscale restaurants. Plus I went to Magnolias, the place was small and the food wasn't anything special for the price. I've been to King Street Grille, it's similar to all the other grill/bar places, nothing special.
Magnolia's happens to be mrs soulsea and my favorite local restaurant to date, both for the food and atmosphere ... but that's also where we were sitting when we both acknowledged how much we love Charleston, and we decided to move here there and then, so there's some bias built in to it.
We have a long list of restaurants we still want to try, so I'm always happy when another member here has something very positive to say about a specific establishment ... so I will put CD on the list so I can one day come back to this thread with an informed opinion.
Mickey Dees is pretty sweet. I also hear KFC has a really awesome thing where they slop all your food into a bowl like a hog trough. So I'd have to say no, it's at least third behind those two.
Sorry but the place, other then the view, does not even register in my top 20 for food nor service.
yeah i gotta agree that there's nothing special about the place. there's ample parking and seating, so it's not a big hassle and you aren't going to have to wait for a table in my experience.
but i would never go there because i wanted to eat there. the main reason i would go there would be to solve a problem like where to take a picky out of town guest who doesn't know or care much about food.
i tend to think of it as sort of adequate--absolutely nothing special, but not terrible either. and it really isn't representative of california food in any way, so i don't quite get the name.

If you read my post, I was mentioning all the places that I have eaten in CHS, and I wasn't limiting it to upscale restaurants. And with CD being #148 on tripadvisor, I have no clue why you would assume this is the best that Charleston can offer.
