Rode pass the jasper building today and people around there are crazy not to tear it down and build something nice there. That area could use a little tlc (tender loving caring). I would rather have something nice in my neighborhood then to look out my window and see rats falling from the 4th floor of that building
More great news for downtown. The office building looks great for that corner. The hotel, umm, needs a little something. Looks a little drab? Summerville's on a roll just like Mt. P.

The rendering of the hotel proposed for the aquarium area looks like a big high school with a front corner section that had its position altered slightly by an earthquake.

Both looks like typical bland buildings. Nothing architecturally interesting IMO. This is what the BAR is bringing Charleston. They can't define a "Charleston Style" so they get this boring uninspiring dreck. Sorry, I just find it frustrating.
It's bland but it's no different than the Cigar Factory to be fair. This is the first I've heard of 511 Meeting st. as well....
But didn't the Cigar Factory always look somewhat like what you see as the finished product now? I remember seeing some pre-renovation pictures, but honestly I'm not too sure of what it has been like long term.
There's a big difference between keeping a look that's always been there and putting up a new construction boring brick behemoth in the middle of an open lot.
(not to say that the Cigar Factory is a bad thing by itself, but if it were a brand new construction idea lower on the peninsula there would be plenty of things to complain about)
