I've heard (complete scuttlebutt) that Costco was interested, but Mt. Pleasant turned it down for the old KMart location due to traffic issues and a car dealership is going in there now. So there seems to be interest, but the city isn't being very cooperative.
That K-Mart site isn't big enough for a Costco....not from the Costco's I've been to. I think it is more an issue of finding a site big enough at the right price.
anyone heard anything new about what might be going on around the 41 bridge? Obviously, they're building a bigger bridge but I was thinking commercial, the marina, etc.
Didn't they want to put a big box store like Costco behind the Tire Kingdom across from Town Centre? I thought that the town shut them down and instead more houses are going in there.
Mt.P. is widely known for turning down big box stores or at least making it extremely difficulty for them to move in.
Yea they don't want big box stores due to traffic, but have no issue adding more housing (often high density housing) with infrastructure and schools barely capable of handling what we have.
The traffic at Towne Center is fine. The traffic between Park West and Long Point is busting at the seams. Park West is going gang busters on townhomes and Carolina Park is gearing up too.
It further extends the problem of to much tax base tied up in reality.
I didn't think it was the town. Thought it was the residents in Snee Farms that created a stink about the new box stores...and it wasn't necessarily a Costco -- Home Depot was rumored but nothing was set.
