Hmm could be. I thought their mating season was later in the year.

Several years ago I drove through swarms of Love Bugs from Brunswick, GA all the way to Valdosta, GA. I had to stop 3 times to clean my windshield it was so bad. The next morning, the front of my car was a bloody/meaty mess with thousands of bugs. I think it was during this time of year too.

Hmm, looks like both May and September are their mating seasons.

Honestly, they still looked more like a fly than what I see pictured as a lovebug...

I'm not super into bugs...but I also lived in NY for 30 years where they don't have them.

I'm from Ohio, and when I went to CofC I never saw them either. I mean they look like a fly. Regardless they were a pain in the butt.

And it wasn't just on the water -- we were biking on DI & couldn't park under trees -- swarms!
Then home to Mt P, off of Mathis Ferry & found the same.
