Hello! I am looking to move to Charleston in a couple of months and I am needing advice on which apartments/areas are best. I am 25, single, female (so would like the area to be safe) and will be moving with my Maltese.

1. Limit $850
2. Apartment or Townhome
3. I will commute to work – currently not employed in specific area
4. No children – but have a 5lb dog
5. Coastal or Urban lifestyle preferred (Suburban living would probably kill me)
6. Safe area, and pet friendly are the only must-haves
7. Anywhere that fits the above criteria. However, would like to avoid the North Charleston area if possible (seems to be a lot of crime in that area)

I will be in Charleston in a few weeks and plan to visit the apartment complexes then. I know there are other forums with this information, but figured it would be easier to ask...thanks for any and all input

Without a roommate you are looking around 950 (1br) starting in the 29464 and 29466 (Mount Pleasant) zipcode for a decent apartment. Mount Pleasant is one of the safer places in the tri-countiy to live and near the coast and downtown.

Hmmm...thats a little over my budget. However, I will look into those areas! Thank you. Is there a specific apartment complex in Mt. Pleasant you recommend?

Atlantic Palms-Charleston This is my go to for recommending apartments in Charleston, they allow pets, are reasonably priced and well situated in North Charleston. I know OP said no N. Charleston, but these are nearly in Ladson and right next to Charleston Southern Univ, Trident Hospital and lots of shopping. Also, minutes from Wannamaker Park for your Maltese and probably 500 feet from I-26. Great location. The management company also manages sister properties in Mt. Pleasant ($950 and up) and Summerville ($750 and up)...

Riviera at Seaside Farms: grocery, bars, and restaurants all on same property. 3 miles from Isle of Palms.

Thicket Apartments: Across from Town Center (belks, cinema, pf changs, etc...) and near Isle of Palms Connector. Starting at 850. Older though.

Paces Watch: closer to ravenel bridge

The Boulevard: Brand new off Coleman Blvd in the Shem Creek area. Short drive to Sullivan's Island beaches and to ravenel bridge.

Honestly, don't avoid North Charleston because of crime. I thought the same thing after many months on this forum, but after living here, there is a section of North Charleston that is garbage, but a whole different section that is luxury apartments in a decent area, essentially. I wish I knew this beforehand!

Which apartments/area would you reccomend for N. Charleston?? I don't want to miss out on great apartments because of other forums. I would be willing to look into them when I am in town. However, I would definiately want to avoid the "garbage" part!

North Bluff Apartments, the Legends at Charleston Park, Brackenbrook Apartments, Willowridge Townhomes, Atlantic Palms Apartments.

A good website to help your searching is: Apartment Ratings :: The leading source of apartment reviews by renters for renters.
