Local hero -- Which schools specifically? We are open to James Island and West Ashley. From what I gather though you have to aim for specific schools. Any specific school names would be great

As a Realtor I'm legally bound not to direct anyone to a specific school. I can point you to the GreatSchools.com ratings to look up James Island schools (or others).
Baptist Hill - 90% F/R Lunch
N. Charleston - 85%
Burke - 84%
Lincoln - 88%
St. Johns - 71%
Stall - 80%
West Ashley - 51%
James Island - 30% WANDO - 14%
True schools with lower socio-ecoomic neighbourhoods don't score as well. The biggest reason -- not the subsidized lunch but the fact that the parents and the school don't have the same resources. The subsidized lunch is a symptom of the problem -- not the problem. Be it time or money, the parents just don't have the same resources to offer their local schools. Those of us that can choose to contribute additional time or money to add to the educational experience of our children usually have more money .
Yes a good student can make it in a bad school....but reality is -- even in a good school an average or just below average student will have a tough time. But more money and resources means more time spent to help those students. In a poor school, an average or below average kid doesn't get the same support.
So if you can choose a 'good' school over a 'poor' school -- it isn't vanity that will make you choose the good school.
