I agree as far as not giving MT. P a new high school goes, the city is by far better off just adding on to the current Wando, all that dividing it up will do is increase over head costs and lead to more children doing poorly.
I cant blame those parents who didn't want a new HS b/c their kid would go to the "second fiddle" HS in Mt P. They probably thought "Just don't build it NOW because my kid needs/wants to go to Wando.....after that, I'll support a 2nd one".
But then those parents don't have kids in the fight, and a new generation of parents are thinking the same thing: I want MY kid to go to Wando, not a 2nd HS".
Thing is, they don't have to make it a new HS. Just do like Summerville and have 2 campuses. One North, one South. Both Wando.
Lets not discount the fact that a goodly number of high school kids east of the Cooper ..basically MTP and Daniel .... go to the many private schools for High School.

I think Bishop England is the only large private high school, the other private schools east of the cooper have no more than a few hundred kids total between K-12, though i think most end at 5th or 8th grade

Yes, many kids living east of Cooper are crossing rivers to Ashley Hall & Porter Gaud -- that's for sure

A lot more are staying for Wando though, seeing as Wando is probably a better school than either of those, not entirely sure honestly but it's got high marks all round. Also about 200 kids per year are going into Wando, which basically means that they will need to provide around 1000 seats in the next decade at least.
To put things in perspective since Wand High School opened the areas population has increased by as much as 30%

If I just had money to burn then I can see Porter or AH. But I don't see the increase in educational benefit for the cost over Wando unless you need the social/political connections.
Sooo.... I was just looking on Google Earth and I saw that Wando has a new small attachment to the main building next to the bus ramp. Does anyone know what that is I can't find any articles on it.
5000 would be small for a college campus so why not have kids acclimate to larger schools before they go off to a university with say 25,000 students.
Mt p will get a second school, it's a no brainer given the growth rate. Lawsuits will start flying within a few years if another school isn't built.
A new school will be built if the tax extension is passed in December, will also include money for a new elementary school across the street from Wando, on the other side of the baseball stadium that is. I'm of the opinion, however, that they should maximize what they have first. There is still a decent amount of room on the campus for growth.
