A couple of bridges I can think of in the Seattle area went from tolled to free once they were paid off.

I-185 in Greenville has been paid for but they still keep the tolls, and they even upped the rates a few months back.

Some tolls are for maintenance too. New York State Thruway has been a toll highway forever.

Any council member who thinks Charleston County taxpayers want to spend more than $350 million ($1,000 for every man, woman, and child in the county) for an eight-mile, $773 million road only the greedy developers and their political henchmen support, should not be reelected.

Kudos to Diane Knich at the P&C for reporting that this resolution was worthless. 526 is still dead.

The county can spend its $350+ million any way it wants.

The toll won't be lifted until the bonds are paid back in 2051! And the Southern Connector "only" cost $200 million to build.

Q&Amy: When will the Southern Connector be free?

I'm still fine with that. Build it already!

Yeap build it cause if not then we lose 300+ mill and that is most likey going to greenville because they want road improvements/new road and for some reason its on the top of the states to do list. Nowhere in charleston area is so no money for this area for a while.. look st summerville. Scdot should be building that new exit off 26 and they have to do it with city money. Same goes for north charleston when they build they new exit. Thats city money and it suppose to be state money.... but the state happily paid for the exit for the new port........

Greedy developers? The developers don't give a damn if the roads built or not, they will build regardless.

Of course the developers care whether 526 gets built... Johns Island becomes much more valuable with better access.
