I'd vote for it regardless of how it's written. I'm not waiting another election cycle for perfect verbiage. Local politicians know they have to deliver or it's the end of the road for them. And it's .5%. Gas fluctuates more than that.
I'm opposed to the sales tax increase for more than just this reason, but voters should know that if it's passed, Charleston residents will have a sales tax of 9%.
That would make us #11 in terms of the HIGHEST sales tax in the country. We would have higher taxes than supposedly "high tax cities" like Boston, New York, and San Francisco.

Boston, New York, and San Fransisco are high tax cities because everything is taxed high ( income, property, gas). Out problem is that we have cheap gas taxes so the money has to come from somewhere.

That may be consolation to some, but there are many people in Charleston, maybe even a majority, whose biggest tax burden is the sales tax.

So would a gas tax. Property taxes are passed on through rent. About the only tax that doesn't impact the poor is income tax, and we're already taxed at 7%.
So, curious here. We already have a .05 sales tax for road construction and improvement that we passed a few years ago. Does this mean that additional sales tax is not enough and we need more to construct the new 526? Or is it an earmark issue (e.g. wasn't identified in the previous referendum)?
No higher taxes. Just stick with the toll and whoever wants to use it can pay the toll to use it.
No, then the tourists don't get to help pay for I-526 so say the pro-sales tax supporters. Actually, before it's all said and done, the sales tax will be higher plus there will be a toll. Mark my words.
