What are your commute times from Summerville and West Ashley to Daniel Island?

You'd most likely be taking the Ladson Rd route to 26, which is 30-40 minutes with light traffic. That route can be very congested at commuter times because of all the lights and new development along the way, and could take more than one hour at the wrong time of day. Otherwise, you could take Dorchester Rd, which is a complete nightmare.
I'm not trying to discourage you, but that area you're looking at is in a tricky location due to its sudden growth and lack of roads to accommodate it all.

Of course, from your description, I'm just speculating on the location. If you're looking a little farther into Summerville towards Trolley Rd, I suppose you could take Trolley to Berlin G Meyers, and it wouldn't be quite so frustrating at times, but still around an hour during rush hours.

My husband has done both of those drives when we lived in the same areas. He would definitely recommend the drive to and from West Ashley over Summerville. The West Ashley drive can still be bad because of 526 but no where near as bad as having to make the drive on 26.

Re commuting to/from that area of Summerville... The drive on 26 is quite often a fast piece of cake compared to crawling along the limited main corridors to and from the highway.
