I noticed yesterday morning that the gateway to West Ashley by the Waffle House, the triangular area where 61 splits off from 17, is getting heavily landscaped. Perhaps by the time the plants mature, West Ashley will have blossomed into a 21st-century-style section of Charleston.
We've been in West Ashley for almost 10 years now, and we're really excited to see these new projects. Has anyone heard more about the Long Savannah subdivision off of Bees Ferry lately? Someone told me recently that they were beginning work on the infrastructure, but I haven't seen any articles about it since last summer.

The news front has been pretty quiet on Long Savannah. I guess they're still making their way through the raw development stage and it's not very newsworthy yet. Most of the last 10 years have been slow moving in WA but I think the changes are going to come fast and furious now.
I wouldnt call it a renaissance just yet, the area still needs a lot of work, but at least it's obvious that the powers that be are noticing that people feel WA is neglected.
Haven't seen anything in the media yet, but there's going to be an announcement Monday July 25 @ 4:00p by Mayor T-berg concerning a West Ashley Farmers Market.
If my memory serves, I thought Mayor T-berg mentioned that he wanted to build a connector road between Cantrell Hwy and Bacons Bridge Road. Is he thinking of widening Ashley River Road ??? or cutting thru the forest on that side of the Ashley River ??
IIRC- I think this would basically be extending the existing road toward Summerville and not necessarily back to 61. People float so many plans I can't always keep a strong recollection.
61 has a scenic/historic highway designation and that really limits how it can be expanded. Mathis Ferry in Mt Pleasant is in a similar situation.
Here's the announcement for the West Ashley Farmers Market. Ackerman Park includes the big open field behind the old Food Lion/Ryan's site and it includes the dog park. Right next to Concord West Ashley condos which only makes that complex even more appealing.
