My soon-to-be 16-yr old needs to take the mandatory Driver's Education before he can get a license.

We are in Mt. Pleasant and there are not a lot of choices.

911 Driving school is charging $450 for a eight-hr class plus 6 hours of driving (SC State Minimum)

Rusty's Driving School is charging $340 for the same.

They are cheaper but the couple of reviews I read on yahoo.com were not very good. But reviews can be rigged.

Anyone have an opinion? Also, Rusty's offers driving lessons on Saturdays ... but 911 Driving website indicates that they are closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Any thoughts? Thanks !!

I'd probably pick the cheapest one and then take him driving myself to make sure he knows everything he should.

Do they not offer driver's ed through the school system? Ours does, so that's why I ask.

Not that I've seen. Driver's Ed is one of the first things to go when budgets get tight.

I was just looking at what will happen with my insurance when my boys start driving (OUCH!) and was surprised to see that my insurance company offers no discount if they take defensive driving classes.

Summerville did when my son was there, there was a fee for it but they offered it, the cars were donated by one of the local dealerships...

They used to. Cut last year due to budget cuts.

Our school offers drivers ed but there is a waiting list. My son completed 911 this summer and we were happy with it. All the instructors are officers and they can take the road test at the school. My son hasn't taken the road test yet but we thought they were very professional and have an apt set up for him to take his road test. I think there is a coupon offered so you can save $50 on the course.
