Which is mildly strange, given your constant propensity to attempt to rebuke me. Either your words or your actions lie.

I didn't claim to be original, did I? You seem to think you have the answers. When you merely have another opinion. But, yeah, I was like that in college too. Gonna go make a fortune. Good luck with that.

I have no idea what youre going on about.
I told the OP dont move down here without knowing much about this place and try to find a steady job. The SAME THING other Charleston forum members repeatedly do whenever someone starts a once-a-day "I wanna move to charleston!" thread. Why youre so bothered that I all of a sudden am that member, I dont know.
Nor did I say you couldnt have an opinion. I just called it "reckless." But OP is siding with you regardless, so why do you still care? Let it go.
I am looking to rent a house for like 6 plus months in Charleston area, better downtown part or surrounding best part where it is easy to get into Charleston without a hassle.
Do anyone know of great housing or rentals for seniors? Thanks
I hate to sound like Cynic1's broken record... but what's your budget... and how big a house? I have a client with a furnished house in Avondale that might work but without some specifics, we really can't come up with useful answers.
My husband and I are moving to the Summerville area...and the thing that scares me is no jobs lined up. We don't have college degrees - but I have been applying to positions. We also have a meeting with an employment agency in 2 weeks when we come down to look around. Trying to be "young and carefree" - but being 50 and knowing the ups and downs of life have me scared to death.

There's a variety of opinions on the forum on that subject. It's really a personal matter and depends a lot on what you have in the way of backup resources (bank acct, family, plan B, etc). 50 is not so young (I'm 60 and I remember) and we're usually not as resilient as we were in our 20's so a little more caution might be called for.
The economy is good here and unemployment is low but that's not to say that a job is assured. Take it slowly and don't do something you have a bad feeling about.

Unlike the original poster, do you have some back up source of income? Where are you coming from and have you been here before? Do you have job skills that you can market?
The OP had all of those things covered, which is why many people said go for it. While I would never say to make your decision purely on emotion, also don't put yourself i the position of looking back some day and wishing. Especially if you are miserable where you are.
Thanks for the replies. We are coming from PA. I have medical billing experience and my husband has custodian, car detailing and warehouse experience. We do have a savings to fall back on, but I don't want to drain that if we don't have to - but it's there if we need it. We both agree, if we can't find jobs in our fields - we will work 2 part time jobs if we have too, to make ends met. We've wanted to move now so we can find our way around and plan on retiring in SC (we ride a Harley and look forward to exploring all year round). We are leaving next Friday to come down and look around - and we are both very excited. Again, thanks for the replies!!
