Hello All,
Will be in Charleston for the week of Thanksgiving. My visit will be twofold, one to visit family and two Charleston is on my short list of places to possibly retire to.
I've only been twice before and both times they were very short family visits so believe it or not I've never gotten a chance to eat out there. I've heard great things about the restaurants.
What are some of your favorites. Have a whole week in town and only planning on doing Thanksgiving dinner at my Aunt's. the rest of the time I want to eat out.
To all those who are going to tell me to research it on line, thank you, yes I know I can do that but I would like some more "personal" recommendations.
TIA
ps, feel free to throw in any places to see or activities that you personally like. I've left my schedule very open for just that reason
In no particular order:
Hall's
McCrady's
Husk
Fig
Charleston Grill (my current #1)
Hank's Seafood
The Ordinary (#1 1/2)
Spero (hidden gem!)
Edmund's Oast
Lewis BBQ
Slightly North of Broad
The major food groups down here are divided as follows --
Seafood
BBQ
Fried Chicken
Steak (the Steak places are off the charts expensive).
Burgers are a special sub-category of the Steak Species and deserve a mention.
They don't do Italian real well around here, save that until you're back in NYC.
If you could tell us which food groups you like, we all would have 3 or 4 faves within those groups.
I love seafood. I'll definitely take your advice and leave off the italian and the Steak.
Dying to try BBQ as I haven't been real impressed with BBQ they have in philly or NYC.
And a good burger is always appreciated. lol, hey I've got to have lunch one of those days.
I'll probably get enough traditional "american" since it will be Thanksgiving.

I could go on and on, but you only have a week!
For the rich....for the rest of us
Home Team BBQ
Californian Dreaming
Ritas on Folly
Noodle House
Thai Elephant
Condos
Crab House on James Island
Krazy Owl on Johns Island
Fatz
You could spend your whole week just sorting thru the BBQ. BBQ comes in two flavors here.....there's Pork and there's Beef. And the Sauce is all-important. Do you have a preference for Pulled Pork or for Beef Brisket ??
For Beef Brisket there's John Lewis, he is a Legend in Texas for his Brisket.
For Pork you'll have to work it out between Home Team BBQ, Swig & Swine, and Rodney Scott's new Place. There are other places on everyone's Fave List that I'm sure will be mentioned.
Seafood starts with Hank's and The Ordinary -- you should treat yourself to at least one of those places. Those two set the Bar by which every other Seafood joint is measured.
We will expect a Full Report of your findings after your trip.
Hominy Grill for breakfast
Jestine's for shrimp and grits
Blossom at lunch for She Crab soup and their version of shrimp and grits.
Obstinate Daughter shouldn't be an afterthought. It should be a primary destination.
