Does anyone know if there was a personal connection to the assailant or was this just a random home invasion with an added kidnapping? And in broad daylight?

Whitney Lake seems like a decent neighborhood.

As far as I've read..he came up behind her as she was entering her home with her three small children after she had just dropped her two older children off at school. He had a knife and forced her into the home, tied her up, and beat the living daylights out of her. She had facial fractures and a brain bleed. He has a long criminal record and had just been released from prison on February 1st. These criminals never serve their complete time that was given them. Our justice system is ridiculously flawed.

and that may be why it was targeted.

There are apps to look up crime by address and neighborhood.
Here in Vegas, almost no neighborhood is immune, especialy nicer "Richer" neighborhoods. Sometimes they are targeted because they are more peaceful, and appear to be more wealthy.
A few years ago Gated communities got really poplular here, because of the persception that they were safer. But that popularity has taken a dive lately as people are starting to realize that the gated communities have a higher crime rate, especially with reguard to car and motorcycle theft rate. These communities are targeted because people feel they are safer, so they are a little less careful with door locks or their surroundings.

just my observasion

I've read all the reports, and there is still much that is unclear. Obviously , he took the 4 year old, but one report said that she brought 3 children home with her that morning (after taking 2 to school.) The ages of the other 2 aren't mentioned. Were they old enough to get out of the house?

Then, the news says no one knew about this until 6pm, when the two children at school had not been picked up. When a welfare check was done, she answered the door. I understand she had been badly beaten, but how did she do that but not call 911 or walk outside? If she was tied up as the reports say, how did she free herself? And, what about the other 2 children in the home for ~ 9 hours if she was incapacitated? What condition were they in?

I guess more info will come out bit by bit. I'm not ruling out that she was known to the man somehow. Why pick that particular neighborhood, and that specific time? It doesn't seem entirely random to me.

The other kids were 6 months and 2years old from what I read. So they were too young to get help. If she did get free she must have been disoriented having multiple face fractures and a brain bleed. The details will be released shortly I'm sure.

Ok, I had not seen the other children's ages. Still, a 2 year old can usually open a door ( unless it was locked) but would the kidnapper take time to lock the door when he left?

I wouldn't expect a 2 year old to know how to get help (but maybe to go out to play or wander) and I suppose it's better that he/she didn't go outside, but maybe someone would have seen him/her wandering around and checked it out sooner?

No doubt she was disoriented (I had even read unconscious at some point) but she answered the door for police.

So many questions.

A friend in Mississippi, with a nice golf course home, had his neighbors house attacked in the middle of the day.
