Hello all my friend and I are visiting the end of April to Charleston . I have been researching where to stay. We want to make sure it is a safe neighborhood. Was checking out holiday inn express in mount pleasant and there one on Savannah trip advisor saying mount plesant is better to stay away from Savannah rd because traffic getting anywhere is bad. Trying to find a hotel where it free to park our car .The lovely historic area is way to expensive for us. If anyone can suggest some other part please let me know . I know we are doing a plantation probably magnolia one the city market a ghost tour. I think my friend want to see fort Sumter. We are not going to the beach since we live in a beach town we are getting our stuff together we both like historic stuff. Thank you for any info you can give .
I'll repeat what I said on tripadvisor.Mount Pleasant is a nicer area, a LOT more convenient and I think you will feel safer.Mount Pleasant also has many more points of interest such as Shem Creek, Pitt Street Park and waterfront Memorial Park and pier.We have stayed in both areas lots of times.I know what I'm talking about!
As a history nut I'm never impressed really by fort Sumter.I'd probably do the harbor ferry tour and visit Fort Moultrie. Its cheap, easy access, and there is a lot there.
I'll buy that. Town and Country is great, there is nothing wrong with West Ashley, just as safe as Mt. Pleasant and less traffic, plus closer to the plantations. I'm sure most places have free parking.
Hey, there is nothing wrong with West Ashley, but if you count the red lights between the two locations, I've got good money that says there are easily 3X the number of red lights between WA and the market Vs Patriots Point and the market along with the extra 5+ miles. There is free parking in both areas.
I am hotel snob, so I look for properties with at least a 4.5 rating on TripAdvisor.
The Hilton Garden Inn on Wingo Way is the highest-rated property in Mt. Pleasant, followed by the Wyndham on Stuart Engals Blvd. and the Hampton Inn on the IOP Connector.
The HIE on Johnny Dodds is well-regarded on TripAdvisor as well, as is the HIE on Stockade Lane.
