Call it a Buyout, a Bailout a Takeover.......whatever. This seems like a no-brainer for the SCE&G customers.
But it's taking forever to get approval. What's the problem ?? Is it simply that they didn't grease enough palms ?? Are there some "gotchas" hidden in the fine print ?? Is this just a turf battle ??
Current Propaganda commercial running on TV lays it out -- $1000 cash to the average paying customer, and a further 5% rate reduction gong forward. Plus, the chance to forget about the sheer stupidity of that nuke plant.
The downside is that SCE&G customers are still on the hook to pay $4000 apiece over the next 20 years as a surcharge in the electric bills. That's a long time before we can forget...

That little tidbit is never mentioned in any of the commercials for Dominion....it's all happy talk about how the $1000 check to ratepayers will "buy a lot of groceries" and other babble. If Dominion is promising a 5% reduction in rates, doesn't that offset the $4K over 20 years ($17 per month) ??

According to this article, 18% is the surcharge we are paying each bill.
And this article says the 5% reduction equates to $7 per month.
The headquarters of Dominion is Richmond, Va. and they have a big plant in Chesapeake, Va. They are a very, very big Power Company and rates will be lower with them. I look forward to the merger, sooner than later. They are a very reputable company. SCANA should be held responsible for the failed Nuclear Plant and this should be corrected.
I'm hoping that the only holdup is working out how to do away with the 20 year "hostage to SCANA" surcharge. When a Utility company makes a blunder of that magnitude.....you don't pin it on the ratepayers.
SCE&G electricity users are charged $37 million a month for the unfinished reactors, or about a fifth of their bills. Those payments finance much of the parent company's dividends. But the dividend has been in question since SCANA's board paused the payouts while the Legislature debates whether to cut its electricity rates.
It's criminal. We've been paying for a project that was likely never intended to be finished. Those funds were simply turned over to investors to offset the cost of the stock dividends.
Funny how stealing $444M/year from utility customers will result in nothing more than a slap on the wrist. Yay for white collar crime.
So SCEG filed a lawsuit contending that a cut to their electric rate is Unconstitutional ?!?!
That's the biggest load of BS they've tried to force on us in recent memory. How about this -- your salaries were gained by pretending to be competent enough to run a Public Utility. You impostors should be charged with obtaining money by fraudulent means, Grand Larceny and Crimes against the Public Trust.
Let's see your well-paid lawyers defend you against that.
