It is true some schools now require ACT instead or in addition to S.A.T. but I think most kids college bound will do both because for sure one of their college choices will require S.A.T.

What's required as an ACT or SAT score depends on the school. Some schools are looking for a very high math score, some are looking for the ACT and some a bit of both.

I would think a score of 2000+ is required for any prestigious school -- be it Ivy League or just a darn good school.

For those not familiar with the new format, the SAT score is made up of three sections, each worth 800 -- critical reading, math and writing. Many kids/schools focus more on the critical reading and math scores.

It is important to look at the number of students that attempt the SAT or ACT test. I know that some kids take it as early as their sophmore year. Their score might be low but the reality is they aren't ready to graduate either. I know many parents who are eager to see what their child needs to work on so they may enrol in extracurricular programs to make sure their final SAT scores are high enough to get them into the school of their choice.

What we need to see now is the AP scores. A crucial part of any good high school are the AP programs they offer and the success the students have when they take the national tests on these subjects.

Where are School of the Arts and Academic Magnet located?
Are they private schools?
Do you have to apply to get in or are they public schools that you just have to live in the district for?

Back when my son went to Academic Magnet (12 years ago), they required his latest test scores, he needed letters of recommendation from 3 teachers, he had to have an A average in all his classes, he had to write an essay (at the school, without any help) and had to go through an interview process with the principal and ass't. principal. It's a wonderful school with very high standards...my son pretty much had his choice of almost any college after graduation.

Default mt pleasant schools and real estate

Hi
You seem to know alot about the mt pleasant area. We are relocating to mt. pleasant from nj in june. I am trying to find a house as well as schools for my 4, 9 and 11 year old. I was initially set on Olde Park and Porter Gaud. Now I am considering the Old Village and Christ the King. Where would nj transplants fit in best. How does Christ the King School compare to Porter Gaud (aside from the tuition). I am hesitant to send my kids to the public schools especially since my oldest will be starting middle school and might be to overwhelmed in a very large school.
