I just had a terrible experience getting my Passat serviced at Low Country VW. First they quoted me a reasonable price for the work, then in the mid afternoon several hours after I had dropped my car off and they KNEW I needed it in the AM they called and told me it was going to be another $200 more. I was outraged! I called other imported auto repair places and the price they were going to gouge me for was 1/3 again higher than the most expensive competitive quote!
By the way, the service and parts were apples to apples. The same warranty was going to be included that Low Country VW was offering. So after an overpriced maintenance of , they got me for another $800+ for putting a new front axle assembly in because the rubber boots were cracked (which should have been about $590 including everything). I told them if they couldn't at least be in the ball park, I would never do business there again and would tell everyone about my experience there. So that is what I'm doing.
I'm also going to find out who the CEO is and let him know how I was treated. So watch out if you dare get your VW serviced at Low Country VW (or any of 5 VW dealerships here who are all part of the same corporation with the same CEO).
You can't really compare what a stealership will/can do with what a local import shop will do.
Obviously, the stealership has A LOT more overhead than the little guy, so that is why the labor and service is more.
I will say that I would complain about the change in the work preformed, costs, etc..... the way you describe it, it is a bit unprofessional to say the least.
LOL!!! (The "stealer") Why haven't I ever heard of dealers called stealers --which of course they are.
I've known to stay away from them after my car has aged sufficiently. Usually by the time I've had my car for 3-5 years I'm way past 100,000 miles on my odometer. Since I've moved here and everything is close by and my work is mostly on-line and not on the road), 1.5 years have gone by and my odometer is virtually unchanged (still under 50,000) so I was still doing the scheduled maintenances even though the car is no longer under warranty.
Guess I should have realized (silly me) that there was no advantage to having the 'stealer' (LOL--too funny) as you say, do any of the work, since it is no longer under warranty --even though it has low miles on it.
