INSTEAD OF 24 KIDS TO A CLASSROOM WE HAVE 30. AT 5 PM THE INTERSECTION OF LADSON RD. AND DORCHESTER RD. IS SO CONGESTED THAT IT WILL TAKE YOU FOREVER TO GET THRU IT.
SOUTH CAROLINA HAS TAKEN A STAND AGAINST ILLEGALS NOW...AND THEY ARE NOT AS MANY HANGING AROUND STORE FRONTS, LIKE THEY USED TO BE. BUT SOME OF THEM ARE STILL HERE, LOOKING TO STEAL A JOB FROM A LEGAL AMERICAN AT A CHEAPER PRICE...TO SEND THE MONEY BACK TO MEXICO...SOON MEXICO WILL HAVE MORE AMERICAN MONEY PILED UP THAN AMERICA...AT THIS RATE. WITH THIS KIND OF PROBLEM, IT IS DRIVING THE SALARY WARS WAY DOWN, MAKING IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR A DECENT AMERICAN TO FIND A GOOD JOB ENOUGH TO SUPPORT A FAMILY. I USED TO LIVE IN CHARLESTON, AND THE CRIME RATE AND TAXES WERE ABNORMALLY HIGH, SO I MOVED TO LADSON, AND THE DELINQUENT TEENS HERE ARE MAINLY IN THE POORER NEIGHBORHOODS, WHERE OUR COUNTRY HAS MADE IT POSSIBLE DUE TO THE FACT THAT BOTH PARENTS HAVE TO WORK NOW TO LIVE, LEAVING NO SUPERVISION ON THE TEENS MOST OF THE TIME.AND NOT ALL DRUG DEALERS ARE OUT SHOOTING UP NEIGHBORHOODS, NOWADAYS THE MIDDLE CLASS WHITE PEOPLE ARE DRUG DEALERS MAKING METH LABS OUT OF THEIR HOMES AND YOU CAN NEVER TELL WHEN ONE WILL POP UP NEXT DOOR. WE EVEN HAD ONE IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD...A YR AGO.
NO ONE KNEW. JUST WANTED TO TELL YOU THAT DORCHESTER SCHOOL DISTRICT 2 IS MESSED UP...THEY HAVE THE UP TO DATE TECHNOLOGY BUT THEY DONT SEND HOME BOOKS...HOW DO YOU HELP A KIDS STUDY WITHOUT BOOKS? THE KIDS ARE NOT LEARNING...THEY ARE BEING TAUGHT HOW TO PUT THE RIGHT ANSWER ON THE TESTS SO THE SCHOOL GETS A GOOD GRADE AND THE TEACHER GETS PATTED ON THE BACK, WHILE THE CHILD GETS PASSING GRADES, BUT DOESN'T KNOW OR LEARN ANYTHING FOR HIM TO GO ON WITH TO THE NEXT YEAR...THEN BY THE TIME THIS CHILD GETS TO MIDDLE SCHOOL, HE IS SO FAR BEHIND IN KNOWLEDGE THAT HE GETS INTO TROUBLE AND STARTS BECOMING A PROBLEM AND THEN DORCHESTER'S ANSWER TO THIS IS TO SEND THEM TO THE ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL WITH OTHER DELINQUENTS THAT ARE VIOLENT, AND THE CYCLE OF CHILD DESTRUCTION CONTINUES........BECAUSE THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SYSTEM HAS FAILED THEM...AND DORCHESTER COUNTY DISTRICT 2 IS PROMOTING THIS...AND PATTING THEMSELVES ON THEIR BACKS STATING HOW GREAT THEY ARE AND THAT THEY ARE THE BEST IN SC!! WHAT A SICK JOKE!!!
I AM SO GLAD THIS IS AN ELECTION YEAR...AND I WANT THOSE OLD NO GOOD PEOPLE OFF THE SCHOOL BOARD IN SC. GET SOME FRESH NEW MINDS TO DECIDE HOW TO HELP THE CHILDREN IS THE FIRST THING TO DO!!!
Boy, I would like to know where these generous teachers are that are giving these test answers away? No one gave my kids the answers to anything. I've had two kids in dd2 schools and my kids have had stern teachers who will fail you in an instant if you don't participate and do your work. My sons backpack weighs over 30lbs because of his books that he brings home everyday. The school can't babysit every kid to make sure they take their books home. It is your responsibility as a parent to make sure that he does.

The schools here are challenging, but he is not given the answers to anything. The teachers are more than willing to work with you to help bring your grades up or to make up work with tutoring which is available to every student. It is there for the taking and highly encouraged, but it is up to the student and YOU the parent to make sure they go. Too many parents want to blame the teachers and the schools for their kids underachievements when they should be looking in their own homes.

I have to agree with scjj here. My daughter attends a middle school in Dorchester 2 and she had to work VERY hard to catch up to her class here when we arrived from the north. I'm very impressed with the curriculum and I personally know that if she didn't work hard and really learn her subjects, she would be left back in a heart beat. We recently had a conference with her guidance counselor because she will be attending Summerville High next year and I was also very impressed with the way they helped us to choose her upcoming classes and set up educational tracks or guides to help her all the way through to college, in addition to the help of career exploration testing.

So many of us that have relocated have settled in Summerville BECAUSE the school system here is wonderful and I don't see any of us moving away because we've suddenly discovered the school system is "messed up".

As far as your dislike for northern transplants like me, that is your prerogative and your personal opinion and I'll respect that and leave it be.

YEP and in 4 more yrs there will be more Northerners here! THANK GOD!!! Opinions are opinions and your entitled to yours, but as you guys have said to us for years "if you dont like our ways, Take I95 North"....Well the shoes on the other foot now, so "if you dont like it here anymore, go further inland"...We won't invade past Summerville, at least not for a while...

Default I was a NY'r too!!!

I relocated here 4 years ago to Mount Pleasant, SC, and I love it! I used to own Apple Realty Group down on Church Street and moved shortly after 9/11 - there are SO MANY OF US here it's amazing....I am thinking of hosting a NY/NJ Happy Hour night just we can all meet each other, and most of my clients anymore are from NY or NJ! I love working with fellow "northerners", it's a little but of an adjustment to the southern ways, but so much interesting history here, it just so soothing and peaceful....

Summerville is super up and coming, recently sold two homes in the same neighborhood there.....it's very close to Ladson, I would say the if schools are important to stick with whatsever in Dor II district, and certain parts of the area are hit and miss, but you can get a LOT of home for your money.

Let me know how I can help and when you plan on visiting again!

Ok, there must a calling to moving to sc. hehe

I, also am looking at this option in the near future. I found some interesting features in Ladson area that impressed me. First, the community paper. I like the feel that neighbors are there to help if you need it.

I am confused about the school system, however. My son would be in middle school if we moved within the next two years. I 've been looking in the Woodside Manor area and not sure if it is right for us, but I noticed the middle school he would be going to is possibly in a different county? Or is this area on the county line?

Anyway, I like the teacher/student ratio, but I'm concerned over the testing scores. I also would need to find work, preferably white collar, but as my son gets older, I could possibly look into restaurant or retail.

Any information I have missed please let me know. If I did make that BIG move, we would be going where we would know nobody. I just don't want to wear the rose colored glasses, but I would like to move to a place I could move forward in. I feel here, in Tennessee, I'm going nowhere.

Thanks for your input.

Most of Ladson isn't all that great.

Better schools are in DD2, some of Ladson is in DD2, but not all.

I would find a job before I moved...

Summerville is a nice community. Lots of people move here for the schools and it's got enough shopping and activities to keep you busy. The downtown area is charming and the people are friendly. Check us out...

My personal opinion is that because of the phenomenal growth surrounding Charleston, Ladson has become an excellent choice to settle. Charleston, SC is rated 4-5th popularity for travel and relocation. We all can't live in the City...or afford to live on Daniel Island. So, the logical place to dwell in in the "Burbs".

I recommend Ladson and here is why. Property value, taxes, convenience and amenities. I love Charleston. I have an office on East Bay Street downtown...however, the parking and traffic down there is maddening!

Over the years, the traffic in nearby Goose Creek and Summerville has become outrageous and the competition to get on the Interstate is fierce. Fierce, I tell you!

Ladson has easy, central access to I-26. Very close to Goose Creek and Summerville Malls and believe it or not, plenty of fun stuff to do. We have the same as everyone else: bowling, fun park, rifle range, restaurants, churches, business owners, the Flea Market, The Fairgrounds...

There is a little place on College Park Road that just opened up. "Lanie's Kitchen and Bakery". Blink, and you'll miss THE BEST, inexpensive, home cooking, cakes, pies and calzones to die for! Little things like that make Ladson special.

I like to think of Ladson, not as an area, rather, a community. It is not so "iffy" anymore. And, for real, there is no community on earth that doesn't have an "iffy" spot or two...some more than others.

I told a friend we moved out of "The Creek" and into Ladson...expecting to get an "ooohhh"...what I got was a "...boy, that was smart"! Hum?

All in all, no matter where you settle in life, let common sense prevail. As for me, I recommend Ladson. It's a smart choice for families.

There is a new community feature going live on the 4th of July called: Ladson Online | Ladson SC Businesses | Free Business Website. It will be filled with local business ads, stories and etc...even a Yard of the Month. That tells me we are growing as a community...and getting away from being an "iffy area".
Great post
